fall is here!
What a beautiful weather week we've had! Aside from a few pesky bees, the sunshine and gorgeous temperatures have made our school days bright and cheery. As the weather continues to change, please take time as a family to plan for the appropriate outdoor clothing. This is about the time of year that our Lost & Found explodes with sweatshirts, jackets, and all sorts of things (still not quite sure how one shoe will end up in there:)). Please make sure items are clearly marked with family names.
We have completed our fall benchmark assessments, and teachers continue to get to know student interests and strengths and are working to set targets for growth for all students. Please watch for information regarding STAR reports coming home and an invitation for parents to attend an general information meetings on interpreting these reports. This assessment is providing wonderful information to teachers that they can use to plan instruction. We must all remain aware that this is one piece of information that fits into the instructional puzzle and patient as we learn to work with STAR assessment information together.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

cougars have "smart parts" and are song writers
On Wednesday, September 24th, students in Grades 1-5 were treated to an assembly encouraging the connection between literacy skills and music. Younger students identified their "Smart Parts" and celebrated numerous talents. Older students wrote and created their own musical number. We hope to post the song to our school website ..... stay tuned!

spotlight on a classroom -- 5th grade
Fifth grade is off to a great start this year! To help further prepare our
students for middle school, fifth grade students switch classes for
some of the different core subjects. Mrs. Stermitz teaches math,
Mrs. Lewis teaches Social Studies, and Mrs. Julian teaches science.
We are also so lucky to have Miss Sanders, who helps out in every
classroom! In Math, we are working on our number sense unit.
We are finding factors of numbers, classifying numbers as prime or
composite, and learning divisibility rules. In Social Studies, students
love discussing current events four days a week, focusing on local,
state, national, and global news. We have just started a unit on
government, learning about the Articles of Confederation and the
Constitution. In Science, we are learning about Earth's systems,
including water and a study of different ecosystems. Fifth
already learned a lot this year!
