happy holidays
I want to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very wonderful holiday season. I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy time together whether you stay at home or travel far away. My holiday wishes come early this year as I will be out of the office starting Monday, until the break, resting up after surgery to resolve a long-standing health issue. It is my intention to return to school bright and cheery on Monday, January 5th. In my absence, Mr. Cervantes, Assistant Principal at Highland Middle School, will serve as acting principal. He will be on hand to answer questions and solve problems up until winter break.
Best wishes for a happy, restful holiday break!
We look forward to a wonderful 2015!!!

all school field trip
Today, Copeland students and staff members, traveled in nine school buses to the Marriott Lincolnshire Theater to see "The Wizard of Oz." The play was amazing, and the students appeared to have a great time. According to one third grader, "that was the BEST show I've ever seen!" This was an excellent way to kick off the upcoming holiday season together by enjoying quality storytelling and appreciating fine acting. THANK YOU to the CFA for funding the buses and keeping the cost of the field trip lower for students.
math night fun
Many families had fun with math last night. Teachers had organized games that are typically played in the classroom to reinforce math skills and help children understand that math is in the world around us all the time. Families played with math cards, dice, tangrams -- they solved problems and strengthened their computation skills. Who knew that math could be so much fun?? Many thanks to everyone who came to graph their favorite Hershey Kiss flavor, make an estimate of how much popcorn was in a container, and shared their math problem-solving talents. Thanks also to the teachers who volunteered their time and talents to the evening; Miss April, Mrs. Boyle, Mrs. Edelsberg, Mrs. Morden, Mrs. Policht, and Mrs. Reinking.
lunch with the principal
Students whose Cougie Cards were chosen recently enjoyed lunch together with Mrs. Poelking. During these special lunches, students share choices they've made for which they are proud. This month, the students made snowflakes to hang in the office demonstrating how we are each unique and beautiful. Thank to all of our Cougars who show great character every day -- in big ways and small.
