happy holidays
During the holiday season, we can take advantage of many “teachable moments” for our children to show care and appreciation to all of those who make our life special and meaningful. This is a special time to look out for the interests and concerns of others. Let the season be an opportunity to celebrate family, peace, happiness, and health. The teachable moments are there for you and your family.
We appreciate the opportunity to serve this great community and are grateful to work with your children every day -- each brings sparkle and joy to the world. Best wishes for a happy, restful holiday break! We look forward to a wonderful 2016!!!
Our very best to you and your family,

With great thanks to Mrs. Julian, Miss Weaver, Mrs. Policht, Mrs. Crandell,, Miss Keske, Mrs. Edelsberg, Mr. Russell, and Mr. Feldman, students enjoyed designing their own app, hearing about sound, designing a robot's movements, lighting up circuits and understanding force and motion, only to name a few of the activities.

seussical the musical
On Friday, December 4th, the entire school enjoyed a field trip to Marriott Lincolnshire Theater to enjoy a production of "Seussical the Musical." The event is a favorite tradition of our school community when we get to appreciate performance art together. Thank you, CFA, for your sponsorship of bus transportation!
cup stacking at copeland
Has your child been asking for his/her own personal set of "cups" or been arranging the dinner table in interesting ways? You can thank Mr. Etnyre and Mr. Feldman for introducing this awesome sport to our school. On December 9th, 20 of the fastest speed stackers competed in the first Copeland speed stacking championships. The final four were Henry, Emily, Cole, and Matthew. Henry narrowly defeated Emily in the finals, and was crowned champion!
pancake breakfast
On Saturday, December 5th, families came to school to shop, eat, and celebrate the holidays. Thank you to all of the volunteers for making this such a great kick-start to the holidays.
celebrating cougies showing great character
Lunch with the Principal took place on Tuesday, December 8th as a celebration of SUPER choices students are making! Keep it up, Cougies!
STAR Testing -- winter benchmark
During the week of December 7th, all students took the mid-year STAR test. Students take the Early Literacy (kindergarten and some first grade students), Reading, and Math assessments on mobile devices (iPads, Chromebooks, laptop computers) in their classrooms. Reports will be sent home to parents on December 14th. Teachers use these results to plan for instruction and monitor student progress and growth.
a peek into second grade
In November, the second graders were busy Pilgrims! As part of the social studies and language arts curriculum, second grade participated in a Pilgrim simulation. For five weeks, the students “lived” the lives of Pilgrims and learned about their hardships and struggles on the Mayflower, as well as in the New World. Teams of four or five students sailed the Atlantic Ocean in 6’x3’ “ships” in the classrooms. After landing in the New World, each team had to write a Compact to establish a government for their colony, build houses, earn a Peace Treaty with the Indians, plant crops, and trade with the Indians. Upon completing each task, the children were required to write about their adventures in a journal. Mrs. Przybylski, our technology coach, lead 2 technology lessons for our students using the website HYPERLINK "http://www.plimoth.org/media/olc/intro.html" http://www.plimoth.org/media/olc/intro.html. Please explore the site to learn additional fun facts about the lives of the Pilgrims and their Indian friends. All had an amazing journey while developing a deeper understanding of why the Pilgrims gave thanks and why we honor them today --just ask any second grader!!
